Dead Chest Island is a small uninhabited island located in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea. The island is known for its historical association with infamous pirate, Blackbeard, who is said to have marooned 15 of his crew on the island with no food or water, leaving them to die of thirst and starvation.
The island is about a mile long and features a small sandy beach on one side. It is surrounded by rocky cliffs and has no sources of fresh water, making it unsuitable for human habitation. It is also home to a variety of marine life, including sea turtles and tropical fish.
Today, Dead Chest Island is mostly visited by tourists on sailing excursions or day trips from nearby islands. Visitors can explore the island and its beaches, snorkel in the surrounding waters, and learn about its pirate history. However, it is not recommended to stay on the island overnight due to the lack of amenities and potential danger from strong currents.
